Our Sifu has uniquely created a fighting style using Tai Chi’s circular and borrowing movements, plus cotton palm and eagles claw to make a fighting style suited to smaller people wishing to overcome bigger opponents. It is suitable for Males and Females and training is available from a young age.
Our Kung Fu members range from 7 – 66 years old and come from all walks of life. We have policemen, doctors, students, teachers, business people, professionals and everything in between.
With over current 300 students worldwide we provide training from beginner levels up to our highest ranking student who are currently 5th degree.
It takes time and dedication to train in this style.
In most instances it takes at least 10 years to become a 1st degree master (RED sash) in our schools. If you are seeking mastery in less time then this is probably not the school for you as once you achieve your 1st Degree that is when the real learning begins.
Kung Fu is life journey. It can and does change the way you live your life if you have the passion for it. All our current and past Masters have achieved high levels of personal development and leadership in their lives outside and inside the Academy. One nice aspect about academy is that once you become a Master you are no longer required to pay for your training.
Another wonderful aspect of training this style is that one improves with age as relaxation rather than contraction is required as well as a calm and attentive mind.
We train and believe the best defence is to attack in a sensitive, skilful, efficient , dynamic and vicious way. This is achievable from the very beginning of your training in this art.
To achieve this we train Forms, Single Techniques, Jongs (one to one set fighting applications), Free fighting (for seniors), Power and speed (Bags and hand pads)and we also train the mind to develop what we call the ‘Sun’ or ‘Zen’ – i.e. the fighting mentality or concentrated spirit.
We use forms to build our understanding of ourselves, i.e. our own energy, breathing, power and rhythm. We train weapons to increase our spacial awareness and to extend our focus and power through an extension of our hand (i.e. a weapon). This is aimed to assist students achieve better empty hand techniques as well as be able to use any object as a weapon if required.
The Circular Tong Long style (Yuen Mo Pai) is a close contact intuitive style using mainly fingers, heel of hand, palms, blade of hand, fists, knuckles, forearms, elbows and shoulders (and if required the head). Hands are used for striking, controlling and gaining time to provide us with new opportunities to attack.
Legs and feet are used for entry, trapping, unbalancing the opponent and for grounding to generate energy to the striking parts.
This is a style designed for the street situation and has served many students well in unprovoked situations where instinctive reflex is required. It is not a sport martial art. It is full contact in a ?
controlled way i.e. we train with our training partners to improve our technique, speed, rhythm and sensitivity.
In the future we will be developing a sport side to our academy which will train select students serious and willing to enter external full contact arenas however this is not our focus for all students as we respect each individuals path in the martial arts world.
The best way to learn more about our style is to take an introductory course and feel it for yourself.
